Verse of the Day

The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” [Genesis 3:4-5 – NASB]

Adam and Eve walked with God. They were created to worship and glorify Him. They were totally focused on Him and Him alone. But it all changed with one bite of an apple.

In today’s passage, Satan uses lies, half-truths, and deceit to tempt Adam and Eve. But beyond that, there is an interesting nuance in his words that we often overlook. When you think about it, what he is really saying is that “your eyes will be opened and you will be like me,” because that is exactly what happened as a result of the Fall from Grace. We became prideful, self-centered sinners just like the evil one.

But, unlike Satan, who will be tormented for eternity in the lake of fire and brimstone (see Revelation 20:10), God has a Plan of mercy, grace, and salvation for us, His children. We have hope thanks to the redeeming blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!
