Verse of the Day
There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. [Proverbs 12:18 – NASB]
You’re about to take a big bite out of a slice of Chicago-style pizza and you chomp down on your tongue instead. Ouch! That hurts. But sometimes biting your tongue is a good thing (in a figurative sense, of course). We get ourselves in no end of trouble with our tongues. Far too often we say mean, hurtful, and cruel things to others.
Today’s passage from Proverbs uses an apt analogy: The tongue is like a sword, slicing and dicing those around us. But King Solomon goes on to provide some great advice. A wise person uses his or her tongue to uplift others by saying kind, comforting, and healing things. So bite your tongue when you are about to attack others, and let your heart speak words of peace.
